The Medieval Ruin Garden of the Coronation Basilica

On top of King Stephen basilica’s ruins we can check out the important details of the Hungarian history. The discounted card gives you a free entry to visit the national memorial’s exhibition.

The tree-bayed, four tower was the coronation church for the Hungarian kings until 1543, in the middle ages 38 Hungarian kings were crowned here. In the middle ages the monarch was only approved if he was crowned by the Esztregom’s archbishop, with the Hungarian saint crown in Fehérvár’s King Basilic. Apart from Saint Stephen 14 hungarian kings and many more of their relatives are buried here.

The National Memorial’s mausoleum holds King Stehen’s carved rock sarchophagus. In the same place we can find Vilmos Aba-Novák’s paintings on the wall, which represents the story of the Holy Right and The Holy Crown of Hungary.
