The former fortress of Fehérvár can be seen on the museum’s wall. On this place the legend of a magnificant royal palace has been preserved by the town.
It could be built together with the downtown walls in the 13th century after the Mongol invasion. In 1601 the royal fortress burned down. This year the Hungarian troops retook the town from the Turkish for a year. In the place of the present square had been a ditch from which an opened, later a covered canal was done.
