The present downtown had been a vivid coronation place surrounded with walls, that changed a lot during the Turkish conquest.

The churches, chapels were converted to mosques, minarets, the Christian corsses were replaced with Turkish half-moon, Turkish were walking on the streets. The remains of the town wall can be found at the side of the park. The entrance of The Palota Gate and the lines of the wall are marked by stones in different colours in our town.
