The statue of Ferenc Wathay Constable

The memory of the legendary constable of Fehérvár, Ferenc Wathay has been preserved by Elek Lux’s artwork under the shady trees, at the ruins of the Monostor bastion.

A confident, powerful man’s figure can be seen, who was captured by the Turkish during the 1602 siege and was a prisoner for many years in Istanbul, in the Yedikule (Seven Towers). The constable wrote the story of his capture and his life, and he illustrated his own book with drawings. Nowadays, the Escape Room in the downtown Hiemer-house preserves his adventurous story in Fehérvár.
