The predecessor of the cathedral, Saint Peter Parish Church had been Suleiman’s mosque in the Turkish era.
It was not an accident by the highest ranked Turkish person to choose this place: the building had been built by Béla IV. as a young king. He was crowned here, and later it became the place for the judgement and the knighting ceremonies. When Suleiman was in Fehérvár, he prayed to Allah here. In front of the cathedral, the lines of Prince Géza’s cemetery chapel can be seen.
